How do I tell which of these clever tricks actually work?
Ask three questions of anything, including everything on this site: what are the numbers, what is the catch, and who tested it. Most clever tricks fail the second question — not because they don't work, but because they only work under a condition nobody mentioned.
What actually works
◇ Plausible
The zeer pot (pot-in-pot cooler)
The model case: real refrigeration under 40% humidity, nearly nothing above it, and no video says which climate it was filmed in.
$20–40✕ Avoid
Sprouted fodder as a feed-cost strategy
The model case for arithmetic: 'one pound becomes seven' is true by weight and a 17% loss by dry matter.
$500–3,000 for a system that loses you nutrition◇ Plausible
French marigolds for root-knot nematodes
The model case for specificity: the blanket claim is folklore, the precise version is extension-documented.
