Birds are taking all my berries and fruit
Netting is the only thing that reliably works. Everything meant to scare birds works for a few days and then becomes a perch — that's not cynicism, it's just what habituation does.
What actually works
◆ Proven
Netting, drawn TIGHT, bottom closed
The only reliable answer. Tight is both more effective and more humane — slack netting entangles and kills birds, snakes and bats.
◇ Plausible
Scare tape, balloons, hawk silhouettes
Days of effectiveness. Move them constantly or don't bother. Fine as a stopgap while fruit ripens; not a system.
◇ Plausible
Plant a sacrifice tree
A mulberry near the orchard genuinely pulls pressure off better fruit, and it costs nothing after it's established.
